“How can you just stand there
with the straight face telling me,
You did the best that you could?
I’m giving up on you
But i’m not giving on me”
The lyrics
above are much likely telling us about what happened in the band recently.
Well, after parted ways with Jimmy and Zach in last December, I See Stars finally dropped a stream of
a brand new track, titled Mobbin’ Out.
The song did not come out like what i expected. The departure of their two
members left them in some difficulties, i think. Especially Zach’s who always
did a great job for the synth and unclean vocals. Even though, it does sound
like Digital Renegade or 3D, in my opinion, but
unfortunately it lacks of the synth and electronica filter in which is the band’s
signature. It is a good track and sincerely deserves a listen, but it is just
not the band’s strongest track right now, given the situation that they are
going to release new full length album.
Despite
its weaknesses, i am surprised with Devin’s ability to overcome the double-job
in the band. He becomes both the clean and unclean (screamer) vocalist in this
latest track of I See Stars. Although
Andrew sings and did scream too in some parts of the song when they are
performing live, i just can not help but admiring on how Devin manages his own
scream wise. It is not as iconic as Zach’s but Devin’s has that spirit that you can not find in Zach’s
these years. Also in the beginning of the song, they offer a sweet-soothing
vocals. Again, i want to praise Devin on his vocal ability. I almost mistaken
his was Kellin Quinn’s at the beginning.
This song also has that deep yet motivational lyrics. Something that we
can not refuse and deny, because people are interesting in music that has that
kind of rejected-and-betrayal-feeling, and Mobbin’
Out offers that.
